“The Biggest Disadvantage Of Electrician Preston” is a witty and entertaining short story by Steve Perryman. But, is it really an exploitative work, or does it contain a kernel of truth?
I was a small business owner who wished to expand my employ. I wanted my new employees to know what I expected of them. And, I didn’t want my business to go down the drain when I misjudged my employees.
I had heard about how one of my employees at a small business, was a fast learner and really loved working with people. He was well-liked and our productivity increased when he joined our team.
After about three months of company ownership, I found out that this employee had one of the most difficult jobs in the office. He was responsible for fixing the electrical system. He loved the work he did, but this was his own personal hell. He was really upset about having to spend so much time working on the electric system.
My first thought was to hire an electrician. However, I decided to use Steve Perryman’s example because I wanted to learn how to become an Electrician.
Here’s how I determined that he would have been a great addition to my small business. With a little research, I found out that he worked with and was very good at building long term relationships with people.
Now, I know this can be hard to do in his situation. If you’re not good at it, it’s much easier to build relationships in a one-on-one setting. He understood how to build rapport with people and I believe that he could easily build relationships with other employees.
I also realized that he was very skilled at communicating with his clients, especially in the work environment of a company owner. I would imagine if he had no clients, he wouldn’t have taken the position he did.
Then, there was a big advantage. He loved the job and would do anything he could to make things better. He would give you all the information he could and then do what he could to make things better.
One thing I learned as a small business owner was that there is a big disadvantage in hiring a large company to take care of your electrical needs. It is usually easier to do the job yourself and use less expensive tools.
However, it’s not a big disadvantage. For instance, when he was working on the lighting in my office, he was building a custom light that would meet all of my needs. He built the whole system in the house.
Now, if you’re considering a career as an electrician, I suggest you check out Steve Perryman’s short story “The Biggest Disadvantage Of Electrician Preston.” I hope you enjoy it!
